BIO

My passion is helping people push past their barriers to better health and reconnect with their bodies in a positive, affirming way.

As a trans non-binary person who works with a majority of LGBTQIA+ clients, I’ve seen first hand and experienced myself what a difference it can make when we get the right support for and control over our physical health.

I was 23 by the time I looked at myself and my life and realised I needed to take better care of myself. I started almost from scratch and spent the next 12 years slowly building up my fitness and my knowledge about exercise and nutrition, until I felt I was ready to pass that knowledge on and got my qualification as a Personal Trainer in 2016.

Since then, I’ve planned hundreds of sessions for clients, taught hundreds of hours of classes and seen my Underdogs reach goals they never even knew they had yet when they came to me, and it makes my heart glow to see them flourish.

In Januray 2019, I founded a class exclusively for trans (incl. Non-binary) and intersex people which is now known as TransForMotion, and I provide reduced-rate 1 to 1 PT sessions for Trans and intersex people on a reduced income. I could provide even further reduced sessions with your help, please see Trans PT Fund for more information.

Inclusivity is a foundational principle of what I do. This means a continual commitment to developing an understanding of the needs and unique challenges people face that I don’t personally have experience with as a result of my white, thin, able-bodied privilege. To read more about my take on inclusivity and what I do in practical terms to uphold that philosophy, please see my Inclusivity Statement.

What is it like working with Coach Huld?

It’s good to know what kind of person you’re getting in touch with, so I want to talk to you about myself and how I operate. I think the easiest way to do this is to say what I am, and what I’m not.

What I am:

  • Supportive - Whatever your journey is, you can count on me to be with you on that road and to help you explore it in your own time and in your own way with my guidance.

  • Encouraging - I will encourage you to try new things and move outside your comfort zone.

  • Playful - If you see me giggle or hear me go “Oh. Oh!” you know something new’s coming. I love to explore and try out new things with people if they trust me.

  • Adaptable - I always have at least a rough idea in mind of what to do in any given session, but I will also ask if you have specific requests or if there’s anything you can’t or don’t want to do that day. I like thinking on my feet!

  • Chatty - You don’t have to be chatty too, but I will be talking a fair bit! I wouldn’t mistake a session with me for a social occasion, but I aim to provide a positive atmosphere that isn’t entirely revolved around exercise.

  • Committed to learning - I want to know about the challenges you face in our sessions, and I want to help you overcome them. To do that, I always encourage feedback and actively want to hear from you if I ever make you feel uncomfortable or unsupported.

  • Silly - I just am. I’m not a stern-faced task master. I’m a massive goofball, and I -will- dance and sing along if a good song appears and I will absolutely give high fives - or self-fives during these times.

What I am NOT:

CN: diets, fatphobia in last bullet point.

  • Driving - Some people want their trainer to be their driving force. That’s not me. My philosophy is to empower. I will give you the tools and confidence to choose how far you want to push yourself. Either way, I’ll be there with you.

  • A Planner - I will help you to set up long and short term goals and support you in achieving them through our sessions. They will be varied, adaptable and tailored to you. I won’t come to you with a detailed 12 month breakdown of all our future sessions, but I will keep you on track incorporating your day to day requirements.

  • A Weight Loss Coach - I don’t believe in diets, I don’t believe in BMI, and I don’t believe that thin equals healthy. I will not prescribe meal plans, nor will I ever assume you want to lose weight. I will help you move safely, move more, and be more active.

We are all at different stages of our journeys, however, and if weight loss is a personal goal of yours, I will support you in navigating that path safely and with a focus on your overall health.
